Misericordia University ABSN Requirements

Our accelerated nursing program is for motivated individuals who have true compassion for others and want to transition into the nursing field on an accelerated timeline.

To be eligible to enroll in our 16-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program near Pittsburgh, you must:

  • Hold a non-nursing bachelor’s degree or have completed a minimum of 30 credits from a regionally accredited institution and meet our core curriculum requirements (see below).
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (based on all transferable credit).
  • Complete all prerequisite courses within the specified grade requirements.

Students who fail a required nursing course, or have been academically dismissed from a previous nursing program, will not qualify for our program.

Core Curriculum Requirements

The core curriculum requirements provide the foundational knowledge and skills for undergraduate education at Misericordia University. These requirements are designed to ready students to think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, and embody the spirit of service.

All undergraduate students, including ABSN students, are required to complete a minimum of 49 credit hours of core courses in the following subject areas:

  • University Writing Seminar
  • Behavioral Science
  • English
  • Fine Arts
  • History/Political Science
  • Mathematics
  • Philosophy
  • Religious Studies
  • Natural Sciences
  • Free Elective Credits

Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in another field are exempt from the core curriculum requirements. However, all prerequisite courses for nursing must be completed.
